Australia is one of the most culturally diverse populations in the world. In its 2011 Census, more than 75% of Australians identified as having an ancestry other Australian and 18% of people surveyed spoke a language other than English at home. Around 2% of the population came from indigenous backgrounds and 43% have at least one parent who was born overseas. A 2010 comparison conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics highlighted the Australian labour force consisted of 11 million people, of which 29% were born overseas.
